Social Coffee

Horeca

Social Coffee is a unique restaurant in gastro-urban area in the center of the Bishkek City. When we develop design for this place, our main goal was to create a place, which satisfy all desires of modern citizens. Our team decided to make a universal, all seasonable interior, which could immerse visitors by its own tropical atmosphere. We made an integration of nature in space with four main forces: earth, wood, metal, water and fire. We uncovered individual character of the Social Coffee and give it unique philosophy. Working with limited quantity of materials we played with contrasts and tactile sensations shackled with the common concept. The portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo added color and become a peculiar symbol of this place.

Project

Before

Located in the center of the city, the building looked a little strange with its post-soviet style. Good side of this place is that space is open and wide, ceilings are high and in fact it makes our work more simple, because we can create without regard to things that owners of the place want to save or remake.

After

We decided to focus on nature and its products in this project. Wood, as one of these products have been used in doors and furniture. Wicker chandeliers and felt fixtures looked well with wood and added warmth and comfort in atmosphere of restaurant. Concrete ceiling covered by gypsum plasterboard looked simple and complement idea of being natured, as well as epoxy floor, which is strong for loads. In order to make this place tropical, we chose plants together with botanists in our local hothouses.

Vision

Our idea was to create all-weather interior, where people can imagine themselves as adventurers and explorers. Developing the idea we have got inspired by Bali – the home of the most expensive and luxurious coffee, than we switched to Indonesia and Mexico. Another thing that inspired us in Mexico was artist Frida Kahlo, who is well known for her free and creative way of thinking.

Execution

In Asian countries, people prefer more trestle-bed and bench type seats, but we decided to make it more compact and refuse from seats that take up a lot of space. With this solution we kill two birds with one shot – we increased number of seats and create actually “social” public space.
